The Cobb County Board of Commissioners Voted 3 (yes) and 2 (no) to approve the zoning. The parcel was rezoned from Heavy Industrial (HI) to RRC (Regional Retail Commercial) to allow a mixed-use development of two (5) story buildings with 250 apartment units, 8500 square feet retail space and a parking deck with 377 spaces. The parking deck entry will be on Plant Atkinson Rd, directly across from Olympia Industrial Drive.
Cobb County's Planning Commission voted 4-0 to recommend denial of the proposed zoning. Planning Commissioner Fred Beloin said the Z-21 proposal is the most "egregious case of incompatible use he's ever seen in his eight years on the planning commission"
